FROM THE COALFIELDS TO THE HUDSON
A History of the Delaware & Hudson Canal
by Larry Lowenthal
While several treatments of the Delaware & Hudson Canal have looked at its place in local history and lore, this is the first to examine its place in the larger context of American business and transportation history. Long out of print, this new edition contains a 16-page supplement with information uncovered about the canal since the first edition in 1997.
Larry Lowenthal is a National Park Service historian (retired) and the author of two other books published by Purple Mountain Press, both about the American Revolution: Marinus Willett: Defender of the Northern Frontier and Hell on the East River: British Prison Ships in the American Revolution.
