The Delaware County
area is rich with year-round activities, most within an hour's drive.
There are five Ski areas, more than eight Golf Courses, two major reservoirs and many
trout streams, with the famous Beaverkill Stream only 20 miles away. Year-round auction
barns, flea markets, antique and craft shops fill most of the nearby villages.
The Soccer Hall of Fame, The Fenimore House, Farmer's Museum, Howe Caverns, and the famous
Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame are all easy day trips from the Octagon B&B.
Summer signals the start of such events as the Clinton Canoe Regatta, Bluegrass Festival,
50's Revisited Weekend complete with car cruise, antique car shows, antique tractor show
and pull, and town-wide sidewalk and yard sales.
The Delaware County Fair is held in August and is one of the best agricultural fairs in
New York State featuring over 1,000 head of livestock, many exhibits, parade and demolition
derby.
The Octagon Farm
itself is an attraction. In spring the greenhouse overflows with hanging baskets, flowers
and bedding plants. Summer brings fresh vegetables, fruits, and berries; many grown on
the farm. In the fall you will find pumpkins, Indian corn, apples, fresh cider, homemade
pies and bread, as well as spectacular fall color on the mountains.
The farm also has a collection of antique and collectible Allis-Chalmers tractors that
are displayed on the ground and are featured in many of the local shows, parades, and
other special events.
